Michelle Yeoh to star in Melanie Laurent’s The Mother

February 17, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Michelle Yeoh and action movies are a perfect match and the actress is returning to the genre with a new film entitled The Mother.

Variety confirms Yeoh will star in the new project from French actor-director Melanie Laurent. The script comes from P.G. Cuschieri.

In the film, Yeoh plays an “immigrant mother and businesswoman trying to make a new life for her family in America. But when her two teenage sons stumble into trouble with a Boston crime ring, she’s forced to rekindle her past to save them.”

Yeoh is an accomplished actor known for her work in genre films for decades. She recently won the Best Actress Academy Award for her marvelous turn in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Yeoh is also fresh off her turn on Netflix’s The Brothers Sun, a crime action thriller similar to The Mother.

Melanie Laurent is best known for roles in Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Now You See Me (2013), but has moved onto directing in recent years with over ten filmmaker credits to her name. Production will start this summer.
