Mike Flanagan says there are “no plans” for a third season in the Haunting anthology series

December 29, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor were both positively received by critics and audiences alike, it seems like the Netflix horror anthology series may not be returning any time soon.

Taking to Twitter, creator Mike Flanagan revealed that while there are currently no plans for the future of the series due to his busy schedule, that doesn’t mean a third season may not happen at some point in the future.

“At the moment there are no plans for more chapters,” Flanagan said. “Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other [Intrepid Pictures] projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change we will absolutely let everyone know!”

Flanagan is currently developing two different series including a new Netflix horror series titled Midnight Mass which follows an isolated island community experiencing miraculous events- and frightening omens – after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest. Flanagan wrote and directed every episode of the limited series – which has just wrapped filming – and stars Kate Siegel, Zach Gilford, Hamish Linklater, and Annabeth Gish.

The filmmaker is also set to adapt Christopher Pike‘s 1994 novel The Midnight Club as a Netflix series which takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers and follows a group of patients who begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. However, they eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave.
