More Doctor Who: The Sixth Doctor audio adventures now available with Trials of a Time Lord

September 1, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Forty years ago the Sixth Doctor arrived on our screens and managed to defeat countless enemies, now Colin Baker is reprising his role as the Sixth Doctor in The Trials of a Time Lord, a brand-new full-cast audio adventure that will see the Doctor, Mel and old friend Peri face a rogues’ gallery of enemies.

In this brand-new Sixth Doctor audio adventure, the Doctor (played by Colin Baker) and Mel (Bonnie Langford) follow a distress signal that leads them to another of the Doctor’s beloved companions, Peri (Nicola Bryant).  Although pleased to be with an old companion, the Doctor is less happy about being in prison camp run deep within ‘Cyberia’, and the Cyber Leader’s machinations are the least of the trio’s concerns.

The Trials of a Time Lord is a six episode audio adventure with the first two episodes written by Rochana Patel, the third and fourth by Katharine Armitage and the final two by Stewart Pringle.  Other voice talents working alongside the trio are David Banks as the Cyber Leader, Terry Molov as Davros, Jon Culshaw as the new Androgum character, Stunrib, Rufus Jones (Wonka) as game show host Brot Zirkussen, Aruhan Galieva (Doctor Who: Can You Hear Me?) as Tiffany Jenkins, a woman from 1985 who’s met the Doctor before, George Naylor as Voss, Samuel James as Grobolosh and Holly Jackson-Walters as Vurglemere.

Colin Baker said: “We’ve got six episodes here with every monster imaginable! The highlight was working with all those dear old chums – with my two lovely companions, of course, and also Terry Molloy as Davros, and David Banks as the Cyber Leader. And whilst sadly the original Androgum actors are no longer with us, to work with the
Androgums again was rather splendid. They were prime creations of the best of all writers, Robert Holmes.”

Nicola Bryant added: “It’s a bit different to your run-of-the-mill Sixth Doctor and Peri story, and it’s wonderful to be working with Mel, teaming up to take care of our Doctor. The story is very present, but also harks back to a story I did with Colin, Vengeance on Varos, which seemed very much ahead of its time.”

Colin Baker is happy in the shoes of the Sixth Doctor

Doctor Who – The Sixth Doctor Adventures: The Trials of a Time Lord is the second of two box sets celebrating forty years of the Sixth Doctor.  Both can be purchased from the Big Finish website in a multi-buy bundle for £44 for collector’s edition CD box set + download or £36 for the digital download only.

The Trials of a Time Lord is available now for £22.99 for the collector’s edition CD box set and download or £18.99 for the download only.
