Three years after the conclusion of the supernatural mystery series Manifest, Netflix has celebrated 8/28 Day with the announcement of the spin-off Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery.
Originally premiering on NBC, Manifest followed the passengers and crew of Flight 828 that experienced a strange bout of turbulence only to discover upon landing five years had somehow passed during the flight. The passengers navigated their mysterious time jump among suspicions from the government as well as supernatural connections to each other and warnings from the future.
Arrivals will follow a new group of passengers on another strange flight, only this time instead of a time jump they all experience full amnesia. The logline reads: “When a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve.”
Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery comes from Manifest creator Jeff Rake and co-executive producers Margaret Easley and Laura Putney. Rake, Easley and Putney will serve as co-creators, showrunners and executive producers on the spin-off.
“When the idea for Manifest first crash-landed in my head, I never imagined where it would lead. What started as a wild concept became something much bigger – a story that connected with millions of people around the globe,” Rake said. “And thanks to Netflix, we were able to finish the journey and give those fans the ending they deserved. But the world of Manifest has more stories to tell. To now bring fans a brand-new mystery from that world is quite simply beyond my wildest dreams. It was a no-brainer to make them my partners on this spinoff. Manifest first ran on NBC for three seasons, but was cancelled after its third season despite its popularity. Netflix rescued it from cancellation for a fourth and final season, ultimately running from 2018 – 2023. The series starred Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Parveen Kaur, Matt Long, Daryl Edwards, Athena Karkanis and Jack Messina.
There is no word on how Arrivals will connect to Manifest or if any of the original cast may return to the spin-off, so fans will have to wait and see for the new mystery to unfold.
