Nicolas Cage to play Spider-Man Noir in live-action Sony series for MGM+ and Prime Video

May 16, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Having been revealed back in February of last year that Sony was developing a live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Prime Video, it has now been announced that Nicolas Cage is set to portray the title character, reprising his voice role from the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Titled Noir, the show mark the first series regular TV role of Cage’s career and see him playing “an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers,” added Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

Noir has been created by Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat) and Steven Lightfoot (The Punisher) and will air on MGM+ in the United States and on Prime Video internationally. It joins another Sony-Marvel project at the streamer, Silk: Spider Society, which has The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang attached as showrunner.
