Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel is disappointed Deadpool wasn’t nominated for Best Picture

February 22, 2017 by Robert Kojder

This Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony is quickly approaching, and to promote the festivities Jimmy Kimmel took part in an interview with Variety. One of the topics touched upon was the Academy’s lack of nominating bigger budget films and under appreciation of the comedy genre, specifically Deadpool.

Kimmel stated: “I would have liked to have seen Deadpool get nominated. I do think there’s a certain type of movie that’s not considered for awards. It’s a shame, because there’s nothing serious about the movies; they’re an escape… I think comedies are also underappreciated. There’s maybe too much gravity applied to the nomination process.”

Did Deadpool deserve a Best Picture nomination? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Deadpool sees Ryan Reynolds starring as the Merc with a Mouth alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Stefan Kapicic (24) as Colossus, Leslie Uggams (Roots) as Blind Al and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
