Outlander has wrapped production on its final season

September 30, 2024 by Ricky Church

The cameras have rolled for the last time on Starz’s hit historical sci-fi series Outlander. The series announced on Instagram the eighth and final season wrapped production over the weekend and shared several behind the scenes photos of the cast celebrating the bittersweet news.

Outlander is based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon and was created by Ronald D. Moore. It followed Claire, a woman who time travelled from post-WWII Scotland to 1743 and the Jacobite Rising. There she met Jamie Fraser, a Jacobite soldier who she falls in love with as she witnesses the events leading to the Jacobite’s war against the British. Together Claire and Jamie have lived through several historic milestones while raising their family.

The latest seasons of Outlander have seen the Fraser clan settle in America and the beginnings of the American Revolution which Claire and Jamie, for all their attempts to steer clear of, find themselves firmly caught in the conflict. The final season will continue to see the American Revolution play out while Claire, Jamie and their family navigate the tumultuous war.

“Words cannot express the gratitude owed to each and every hard-working cast and crew member who brought this incredible series to life and every single fan who supports it with passion, creativity, and dedication,” the show’s Instagram statement said. “Outlander really is more than just a show, it’s a family, and while filming might be ending, there’s so much more to this journey that’s just beginning.”

Though the series is ending, Starz has been developing the prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood which will focus on Jamie Fraser’s parents.

Outlander Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes and premiere sometime in 2025.
