Patty Jenkins officially signs on to direct Wonder Woman 2

September 11, 2017 by Ricky Church

Many will not be surprised by the news, but it is now official that Patty Jenkins will return to the director’s chair for the Wonder Woman sequel, as per Variety. Gal Gadot will also reprise the role of the Amazon Princess for a December 13th, 2019 release date.

Since the release of Wonder Woman earlier this summer, there’s been a lot of talk over whether or not Jenkins would return for the eventual sequel. It was heavily assumed she would, especially after Geoff Johns revealed in June that he and Jenkins were working on the sequel’s script, saying “Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great Wonder Woman film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.”

Jenkins had previously expressed her own excitement at possibly returning to the director’s chair. It was later reported that she would also be getting a huge pay increase from the first film, become the highest paid female director in Hollywood. Wonder Woman has also become a box office hit, cumulating $816.3 million during its run.

The first Wonder Woman will be getting its Blu-ray release on September 19th.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman sees Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
