Plague Inc. receiving new mode where players save the world from a pandemic

March 24, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Developer Ndemic Creations has announced Plague Inc., the game where you spread a deadly plague around the world with the goal to kill off the population, is receiving a brand-new game mode where players will now save the world.

According to a recent blog post, the new game mode will allow players “to balance managing disease progression and boosting healthcare systems as well as controlling real-world actions such as triaging, quarantining, social distancing and closing of public services,” the post explained. “We are developing this game mode with the help of experts from the World Health Organisation, the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network and more.”

While there is no official release date for the game mode as of yet, Ndemic Creations announced the mode is currently in accelerated development and will arrive in a new update which will be free for all players during the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, Ndemic Creations revealed they have made a $250,000 donation split between the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund to fight the current pandemic.

“Eight years ago, I never imagined the real world would come to resemble a game of Plague Inc. or that so many players would be using Plague Inc. to help them get through an actual pandemic,” said James Vaughan, creator of Plague Inc. “We are proud to be able to help support the vital work of the WHO and CEPI as they work towards finding a vaccine for COVID-19.”

Plague Inc. is available on iOS, Android, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows Phone.
