Ragnarök arrives this fall in God of War Ragnarök trailer as special editions revealed

July 7, 2022 by Ricky Church

Playstation and Santa Monica Studio has announced Ragnarok is coming sooner than some expected with the news God of War Ragnarök will be released November 9, 2022. Watch the ‘Father and Son’ announcement trailer and details on the various special editions below…

God of War was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018 as a distant sequel to the original God of War trilogy. Rather than take place in ancient Greece and continue its Greek mythology, the new God of War explored Norse mythology as Kratos was living an isolated life with his son Atreus until a mysterious Norse god came knocking at their door, setting them off on a journey where they met other figures of Norse lore and delved into the mysteries of Odin. The conclusion of the game teased Kratos and Atreus had inadvertently begun Ragnarök, the end of the world, and saw Odin’s son Thor as the next God to arrive unexpectedly at their home.

God of War Ragnarök will be released on Playstation 4 and PlayStation 5 with pre-orders beginning July 15 at 10 AM. The standard edition will include alternate skins for Kratos and Arteus with the Risen Snow armour and the Snow Tunic for the pair.

The Digital Deluxe Edition will only be available digitally and let players upgrade for $10 if they have the standard edition. The deluxe version includes:

  • Full God of War Ragnarök game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
  • Kratos Darkdale Armor
  • Atreus Darkdale Attire (cosmetic)
  • Darkdale Blades Handles for the Blades of Chaos
  • Darkdale Axe Grip for the Leviathan Axe
  • Official God of War Ragnarök digital soundtrack
  • Dark Horse digital mini artbook
  • Avatar set
  • PlayStation 4 theme

The Collector’s Edition features quite an extensive bit more, including everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition as well as a replica of Thor’s hammer Mjölnir. The Collector’s Edition includes:

  • Printed voucher code for the full God of War Ragnarök game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
  • Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine box
  • A steelbook display case (no game disc included) – The God of War Ragnarök steelbook display case depicts renditions of the Bear and the Wolf.
  • Two-inch Vanir Twins carvings – In the same style as Atreus’ wooden toy carvings of the Huldra Brothers from the God of War (2018) Collector’s Edition, the God of War Ragnarök Collector’s Edition completes the set with carvings of the Vanir Twins.
  • Dwarven dice set – This set comes with a set of dice with a quality wood-like finish in a dice bag with a symbol of Yggdrasil on the outside.
  • 16-inch Mjölnir replica – A highly detailed replica of Thor’s signature weapon from God of War Ragnarök.

Finally, the Jötnar Edition features everything from the previous two sets along with:

  • Printed voucher code for the full God of War Ragnarök game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
  • Seven-inch vinyl record with music by Bear McCreary – This includes two tracks from composer Bear McCreary.
  • The Falcon, Bear, and Wolf Pin Set – Representing Faye, Kratos, and Atreus respectively, this pin set symbolizes our heroes’ family.
  • The Legendary Draupnir Ring – A ring from Norse Mythology, the Legendary Draupnir Ring comes in a red cloth bag.
  • Brok’s Dice Set – This dice set comes with a metallic silver finish with blue detailing. The dice bag features the Huldra Brothers’ brand.
  • Yggdrasil Cloth Map – This cloth map shows each of the Nine Realms within the branches and roots of Yggdrasil.

God of War Ragnarök will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 November 9, 2022.
