Resident Evil director says movie reboot will be “super, super scary” and go “back to the roots of the game”

August 20, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Johannes Roberts, director of 47 Meters Down, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, and The Strangers: Prey at Night, has provided a brief update on his Resident Evil  movie reboot.

In a recent statement given to ScreenRant, Roberts explained the movie’s current stage of development and his aim to bring the film back to the roots of the game:

“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

The most intriguing part from Roberts’ description of “getting back to the roots of the game” suggests his take will drop the over-the-top action for a movie that will be designed to be scary and tense. If this can be done correctly, this could bring audiences back on-board who were disappointed by the previous six films in the Resident Evil movie franchise.

What do you think to Roberts’ comments on his upcoming reboot? Are you looking forward to a Resident Evil movie that is going back to its horror roots? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…
