Ridley Scott in talks to direct The Prisoner

January 10, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Ridley Scott is in talks to direct the long-gestating big screen remake of the classic British TV series The Prisoner.

Universal Pictures has been trying to get the project off the ground for several years, with the likes of Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) and William Monahan (The Departed) having contributed drafts. It’s said that the search is underway for another writer to produce a draft to Scott’s liking.

The original series ran between 1967 and 1968 and starred Patrick McGoohan as a former secret agent – known only as Number Six – who finds himself imprisoned on an isolated coastal village.

Scott is currently prepping his Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, and is reportedly planning a further two follow-ups, so it remains to be seen if and how he could fit The Prisoner into his schedule.
