Rob Schneider bringing back The Animal for Tubi sequel movie

October 5, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Tubi will bring back a 00s film that many may not remember, but one that made quite the splash upon release.

Deadline reports that Rob Schneider is set to direct, co-write, produce and star in a sequel to 2001’s The Animal. Schneider has penned the script with his wife, Patricia Schneider, and writing partner, Jamie Lissow.

Schneider will return to the role of Marvin Mange, a police evidence clerk whose behavior changed after he got animal parts transplanted following a critical injury.

Tentatively titled The Animal 2, the logline reads: Marvin Mange, now an old dog, needs to learn new tricks as he hunts down a new uber-animal with powers far beyond his own.

As per Deadline, the plot sees Marvin, now retired, getting into an accident and having to be put together again with new animal parts. He goes on to take on a baddie who is threatening a village.

In 2001, The Animal received mixed reviews (30% on Rotten Tomatoes) but performed well at the box office, grossing $84.8M worldwide on a $47.8M budget, and has since become a cult hit. The film was made at the height of the Rob Schneider craze, two years after Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and a year before his other cult hit, The Hot Chick.

As noted, The Animal 2 will see its release on Fox’s AVOD platform Tubi.
