RPG Tangledeep out now on Nintendo Switch

February 1, 2019 by Andrew Newton

Impact Gameworks has announced the release of their old school roguelike dungeon crawler Tangledeep on the Nintendo Switch.  Inspired by the classic RPGs of the SNES, Tangledeep will deliver beautiful pixel art graphics and over 100 hours of gameplay to fans of the genre, both new and old.

Tangledeep takes players to a world where the inhabitants live within underground villages and settlements.  The surface world is but a mystery and a dream to all except those who can find their way to it through the ever changing labyrinth known as Tangledeep.  Adventurers will need to traverse this labyrinth to find out what waits on the surface.

This roguelike dungeon crawler features:

  • Procedurally generated gameplay with a variety of challenging monsters to fight, quests to complete and rare items to collect.
  • Tactical turn based combat across 12 unique jobs with over 100 skills.
  • Three game modes to choose between including Heroic Mode, Hardcore Mode (permadeath mode) and Adventure Mode.
  • Capture monsters and raise them as pets or breed them with others.
  • 10 Game modifiers to make the game easier, harder or just plain wacky.
  • Share your progress between characters by using the banking system, planting magic trees or raising monsters in town.
  • Beautiful 16 bit inspired graphics and carefully handcrafted maps that hearken back to the days of the SNES.
  • Randomised mini dungeons where anything goes.
  • A Soundtrack composed by award winning composer Andrew Aversa – joined by Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana) and Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye 007, Civilization: Beyond Earth).

“Tangledeep is a roguelike for purists and newcomers alike. If you’re into permadeath and narrow escapes, you’ll be thrilled. At the same time, if you’ve never played a roguelike in your life, you can avoid permadeath altogether while exploring, looting, and facing monsters floor after floor. I made Tangledeep to celebrate my love for classic 16-bit SNES RPGs – not only in terms of pixel art, but also the music that sounded so incredible and that is still beloved by millions today. I’m so happy that my game is finally coming to the Switch – and that it includes music from some of the greatest game composers ever!” Andrew Aversa, Lead Developer, Impact Gameworks.

Tangledeep is available on the Nintendo Switch now.
