Rumour: Hayden Christensen in talks for Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series

May 9, 2020 by Gary Collinson

After years of rumours, Hayden Christensen finally made his return to the galaxy far, far away last year as he reprised the role of Anakin Skywalker for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – although his brief voice cameo during the film’s climactic confrontation between Rey and Palpatine wasn’t quite the big return that many of his fans would have hoped.

Well, if (and we stress the emphasis on the “if” here) a new report from LRM is to be believed, Christensen may be set for another Star Wars outing, with the site claiming that the actor is in talks to make an appearance in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which is being headlined by his Prequel Trilogy co-star Ewan McGregor.

Given that the Obi-Wan show will be set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope (i.e. the time when Anakin is entombed in his Darth Vader suit), it’s unclear just how Christensen might factor into proceedings. It would seem unlikely that he’d be cast just to wear the Sith Lord’s costume (see Rogue One), so one would assume it would have to be a flashback, vision, or perhaps an unmasked Vader scene.

The rumour goes on to suggest that Disney and Lucasfilm planned to announce Christensen’s involvement at Star Wars Celebration in August, although there remain huge doubts as to whether the convention will actually go ahead in the wake of the global health crisis.

Having been pushed back due to creative issues, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently undergoing a retooling under King Arthur: Legend of the Sword screenwriter and John Wick: Chapter 3 executive producer Joby Harold and is said to be targeting a 2022 premiere date on the Disney+ streaming service.
