Sam Worthington to star in Shark vs Killer Whale thriller Alphas

March 4, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Avatar star Sam Worthington is set to lead the cast of Voltage Pictures’ Alphas, a thriller from director Steven Quale (Into the Storm) and screenwriter Frank Hannah (The Cooler) which pits a fearsome Great White Shark against a deadly Killer Whale in a battle of the aquatic apex predators. Check out the teaser poster here direct from the European Film Market…

As per Dark Horizons, here’s the official synopsis for the film:

When the local Great White population spirals out of control, environmentalist Gavin McDade (Sam Worthington) is tasked with finding a natural solution to the shark problem. He tracks down the owner of a nearby Killer Whale sanctuary, whose career as an Orca trainer was cut short when she was attacked by the star of her own show.

She reluctantly agrees to reintroduce a pod of juvenile Orcas into the same waters to drive out the sharks. However, they soon realise there’s a female alpha Great White lurking beneath the surface capable of destroying them all.

With nowhere else to turn and with his rebellious sister’s surf competition quickly approaching, Gavin must convince the former trainer to unleash the same creature that nearly killed her in what will become the greatest battle of apex predators the oceans have ever seen.

Filming on Alphas is set to take place this summer in Puerto Rico. Worthington meanwhile will next be seen alongside Armie Hammer, Gary Oldman, Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Rodriguez in Dreamland, before reprising his Jake Sully role in James Cameron’s Avatar 2 in 2021.
