Samuel L. Jackson on returning as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel

January 20, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last year at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that Samuel L. Jackson would be reprising the role of Nick Fury – albeit with two eyes – for the 1990s set Captain Marvel movie.

Jackson followed up the reveal by suggesting that he was yet to sign on for the Brie Larson-headlined movie (and that Nick Fury wouldn’t be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4 either), but now he has confirmed to AV Club that he is officially on board for the studio’s first female-led superhero outing.

“We’re going back now, and I meet Captain Marvel in more of an origin story,” said Jackson. “You’ll see Nick Fury with another guy’s face, somebody that’s got two eyes, so that’s a whole big deal. You’ll see. It’s prior to the eye injury, no eye patch.”

It’s a little unclear what Jackson means by “another guy’s face”. Perhaps he’s referring to the de-aging visual effects which will presumably be employed for the 90s take on Nick?

Captain Marvel is set for release on March 6th 2019 and stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Dr. Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell, and Ben Mendelsohn and DeWanda Wise in as-yet-unrevealed roles. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) are directing.
