Scary Movie 6 sets summer 2026 release date

January 25, 2025 by Ricky Church

Last fall the Wayans Brothers made the exciting announcement they were set to reboot their Scary Movie franchise after being away from it for 20 years. Now the reboot of the satirical series has been given a release date for next summer.

Marlon Wayans revealed the news on Instagram, telling fans to mark their calendars for June 12th, 2026. Marlon  starred in the first two Scary Movie films as Shorty, a drug-addicted slacker in the main group of friends. He and his brothers, Keegan Ivory and Shawn Wayans wrote and produced the two films, but came into conflict with Miramax and the Weinstein brothers when they did not offer the Wayans Brothers a fair deal and stole their idea for Scary Movie 3. The following films in the franchise did not include the Wayans Brothers at all.

Released in 2000, Scary Movie was a parody of several hit horror films, particularly ones that were popular within that time frame such as Scream, The Blair Witch Project and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Scary Movie 2 took a turn into the supernatural genre of horror with Anna Faris and Regina Hall starring in four of the five films.

It is not known yet if Faris, Hall or any other original cast members will return to reprise their roles for Scary Movie 6 or if the Wayans will act in the film as well. We can be assured though they have an abundance of new horror films to spoof with Scream having been semi-rebooted or the crop of new age horror like Smile, Thanksgiving, It Follows or Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us among other films.

Which films do you think the Wayans Brothers will parody next in this latest instalment? Are you excited for a new Scary Movie from the Wayans? Let us know on our social channels at @FlickeringMyth…
