Scott Derrickson talks working with Jon Spaihts on Doctor Strange

July 11, 2014 by admin

It was announced last month that Scott Derrickson (Sinister) would be directing the adaptation of Doctor Strange for Phase Three of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and it was a couple of weeks later that Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) had been brought on to pen the script.

In an interview with Movie Pilot, Derrickson talked about working with Spaihts saying, “obviously it’s been announced there’s a writer on Doctor Strange but in that situation it’s maybe my favourite screenwriter in town. I’d read four of his scripts before ever meeting him. I think that the opportunity to work with great talent and people who can supersede my abilities in various areas is extremely exciting to me. Like, Jon Spaihts is a genius.”

Derrickson has written four of the five features he’s worked on, so there is a chance he will have some involvement in the script writing proess.

In other Doctor Strange news, it is expected that the movie will be made official at San Diego Comic-Con, but it has been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) – who was a front runner for the role of Doctor Strange – will be in attendance for his first Comic-Con weekend. Of course, this could be for Penguins of Madagascar, but that doesn’t stop the rumours spreading. This was further pushed by Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe who tweeted this yesterday, seemingly suggesting that Marvel have found their man:

Interesting choice for DR. STRANGE. 🙂
