Scream’s Melissa Barrera to headline Matt Reeves-produced horror film God’s Country

February 7, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Having sung her way through In the Heights, Melissa Barrera has quickly elevated her pitch to screaming, taking on consecutive roles in the horror genre, and now she has lined up another one in the form of the Matt Reeves’ produced God’s Country.

Deadline reports that Barrera will follow up appearances in Scream, Scream VI, and Bed Rest by taking the lead in God’s Country, the American directorial debut of Sputnik (read our ★★★★ review here) helmer Egor Abramenko.

Produced by Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho and ZQ Entertainment, God’s Country is written by Westworld‘s Will Soodik, and as per the report tells the story of a young Salvadoran woman who travels to Kentucky to meet her fiancé. What she uncovers is something sinister beyond comprehension, as her American dream curdles into a nightmare of biblical proportions.

Production is set to get underway in the summer, but before then you can watch Barrera being chased around New York when Scream VI opens on March 10th this year.
