SDCC: Hugh Jackman teases Old Man Logan for Wolverine 3

July 12, 2015 by Justin Cook

Not only were such films as Fantastic Four, Deadpool and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials shown off at Fox’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, but actor Hugh Jackman also revealed some information about his future in the X-Men film universe.

Jackman confirmed what most already knew: 2017’s third Wolverine solo film will be his last outing as Logan/Wolverine. On top of that, however, he teased fans with the story the third Wolverine film might tell.

“I’ve got three words for you guys: Old Man Logan. Read into that what you will,” said Jackman on the character of Wolverine.

While there are several different ways to interpret Jackman’s words, they do seem to be a direct reference to a certain comic series.

For those unfamiliar, Wolverine: Old Man Logan was an eight-issue storyline from the mind of Mark Millar, which shows Logan as a broken old man. The arc is known to be one of the greatest Wolverine stories ever told, and fans have been anxiously awaiting a screen adaptation for years.

Without spoiling too much, Fox doesn’t have the rights to all the characters who appear in the story, so we’ll have to wait and see how they deal with certain elements.

The still untitled third Wolverine solo film will claw its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
