Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz confirmed for Big Little Lies season 2 return

February 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Deadline has confirmed that stars Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz have all closed their deals to return for a second season of HBO’s acclaimed drama series Big Little Lies, joining the previously announced Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

Having received a green light back in December, the second season of Big Little Lies is being written by David E. Kelley from a story by author Liane Moriarty, while Andrea Arnold (American Honey) has signed on to direct all seven episodes. Meryl Streep is also confirmed as joining the cast, where she will portray Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry Wright as played by Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) in the first season.

The description for season two of the show reads: “The subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

The second season of Big Little Lies is not expected to arrive on HBO until 2019, where it will be joined by the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, and the third season of True Detective.
