Shazam director responds to rumours of the DCEU’s cancellation

November 22, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The director of Shazam has commented on the baseless rumour regarding the DC Extended Universe’s cancellation.

Justice League wasn’t exactly what DC and WB were hoping for; the film didn’t perform well with critics and pulled in the lowest domestic opening for a DCEU film. This hasn’t helped the DCEU’s standing at all and only fuelled speculation regarding its future.

One such rumour claimed by a Reddit user, is that his “sources” at Warner Bros. told him they are planning on canning the DC Extended Universe and then taking a whole five years off while they sort things out and plan their next steps.

Well, no one told the director of the Shazam about this, David F. Sandberg. The director is a Reddit user and commented on the rumour, expressing his shock in a rather amusing and mocking manner.

“Nobody told me.” Sandberg wrote. “Can I take the day off tomorrow then? I really want to sleep in.”

It’s a pretty good response to a rumour that is hard to believe considering its origins, but should it be true, hopefully Sandberg will get the heads-up before he works himself too hard.

Shazam is set for release on April 5th 2019, and sees David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) directing a cast that includes Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana and Grace Fulton in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
