Shudder fantasy horror Rita gets a trailer, poster and images

October 24, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

Shudder has shared a trailer, poster and images for Rita, the fantasy horror from writer-director Jayro Bustamante.

The film follows 13-year-old Rita as she is placed in an oppressive orphanage after running away from home, where the girls plot their escape to claim their freedom and expose the abuse and exploitation that takes place within its walls.

While fleeing a neglectful household, thirteen-year-old Rita is placed in an oppressive state-run orphanage. Rita’s arrival provides a glimmer of hope to the girls inside, who share a prophecy that an angel will appear to release them. Encouraged by one another, the girls plan an escape to claim their freedom and expose the orphanage’s abuses of power. Based on the true story behind one of Guatemala’s most harrowing tragedies, RITA shines a light on the brave orphans whose fight for survival inspired a nationwide outcry for justice and reform.

The cast includes Giuliana Santa Cruz, Alejandra Vasquez, Ángela Quevedo, Isabel Aldana, Sabrina De La Hoz, Margarita Kénefic and Maria Telón.

Rita arrives on Shudder on November 22nd.
