Sony and Blumhouse revving up for a reboot of Stephen King’s Christine

June 9, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Another day, another Stephen King adaptation gets the greenlight from Hollywood. With a new iteration of Firestarter just around the corner, Salem’s Lot sequel series Chapelwaite not far behind it, and Lisey’s Story landing on Apple TV+ this week, Sony Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have just announced that they’re buffing up King’s 1983 vehicular horror film Christine, with Pushing Daisies Bryan Fuller set to direct.

Deadline report that the Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery creator is in the early stages of writing the script and will make his feature debut with Christine. The story claims that Fuller will keep the ’80s setting and be faithful to the book.

King’s novel tells the story of a 1958 Plymouth Fury which becomes possessed by malevolent supernatural forces and causes its 17-year old owner to take on the personality of its previous occupant. The story was originally adapted for the big-screen by John Carpenter, resulting in a clunkily charming VHS favourite which was written by Bill Phillips, and starred Keith Gordon.

Are you excited to see Christine given the cinematic equivalent of Pimp My Ride, or would you rather see another of King’s texts afforded the reboot treatment? Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
