Sony sets release dates for Ghostbusters 3 and Morbius, the Living Vampire

January 26, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Having announced last week that Jason Reitman is on board to direct a new instalment in the original Ghostbusters continuity for release in Summer 2020, Sony Pictures has now announced that the as-yet-untitled Ghostbusters 3 will open on July 10th 2020.

Little is known about Reitman’s plans for the new Ghostbusters movie, but it has been rumoured that it will follow four teenagers (two males and two females), while Ernie Hudson suggested that he’ll be back as Winston Zeddemore alongside his original co-stars Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz) and Bill Murray (Peter Venkman).

Ghostbusters isn’t the only big release that Sony has lined up for that month, as the studio has also officially set its Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, the Living Vampire to arrive on July 31st 2020. The film – the second instalment in Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters after last year’s Venom – is being directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life) will see Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) taking on the title role alongside Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising).

As yet, neither film has any competition on those dates, but July is shaping up to be a stacked month, with Minions 2 opening on July 3rd, Christopher Nolan’s next movie hitting on July 17th alongside Bob’s Burgers, The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, and Disney’s Jungle Cruise and an untitled Sony Pictures Animation film arriving on July 24th.
