Spider-Man: No Way Home swinging close to pandemic record with second-best five-day gross of all time

December 23, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Records are falling faster than MJ from unsteady scaffolding when it comes to Spider-Man: No Way Home, so following on from its second best domestic opening of all time, comes the news that its $31.4M Tuesday total now means that it has achieved the second-best five-day gross of all time, behind only Avengers: Endgame.

Per the statistics provided by Deadline, the Jon Watts directed blockbuster has also nabbed the highest December five-day gross of all time, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which took $325.4M back in 2015, a pre-pandemic world.

On which, Spider-Man: No Way Home also swung closer to setting a global pandemic-era record by crossing the $700M mark internationally. Its global tally now stands at $751.3M, which is just off No Time to Die‘s $774M record, and should have been crossed by Tom Holland’s webslinger before I even finish typing this sentence.

Elsewhere in non-Spider-Man related box-office news, Disney dropped 20th Century Studios’ The King’s Man (read our ★ ★ ★ review here) into preview screenings across the country, where it earned $800,000, which is line with analysts predictions that have the franchise prequel opening with about $20M for the weekend.

Are you going back to see Spider-Man: No Way Home again before Christmas? Will you be filling the coffers of those poor Disney studio executives one more time? Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home) directing Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (MJ), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Angourie Rice (Betty Brandt), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Jason Ionello), Benedict Wong (Wong), J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), J.B. Smoove (Mr. Dell), Hannibal Buress (Coach Wilson), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus), Rhys Ifans (Lizard), Thomas Haden Church (Sandman), and Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin).
