Splash remake is on the way, says producer Brian Grazer

June 7, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

In an interview with CNBC, producer Brian Grazer (Inferno, A Beautiful Mind) has said that one his earliest films Splash is getting the remake treatment.

Released in 1984, Splash was Grazer and producing partner Ron Howard’s first significant hit, with Howard also directing. Tom Hanks (A Hologram for the King) and Darryl Hannah (Kill Bill) starred in the film.

In the interview, attention turned to Grazer’s original treatment of the film, which was entitled Wet and was told from the mermaid’s point of view rather than the human man’s, played by Hanks.

“I’m actually gonna do Splash today,” said Grazer. “I’m actually going to do it from the point of view of… I can’t say anything about it. There’s a movie star involved, I haven’t announced it. We’re going to do a version of [Wet], but I can’t tell you the twist.”

The original film grossed over $70 million at the US box office and co-starred Eugene Levy and the late John Candy.
