Star Ocean the Second Story R unveils anime opening movie

September 5, 2023 by Andrew Newton

Square Enix has released a brand new anime opening movie for their upcoming remake Star Ocean the Second Story R, which will be launching on Playstation 5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on 2nd November.  The new opening movie, produced by animation company Yostar Pictures, features dual playable protagonists Claude and Rena and a very upbeat sounding song written and performed by Japanese duo Suiren.  Watch this new opening below…

Star Ocean the Second Story R is a 2.5D remake of the 1998 classic RPG that combines both 3D environments and 2D pixel characters.  Players accustomed to the original will notice a few differences, including a rearranged soundtrack, new difficulty settings, numerous quality-of-life improvements and many more things to refresh the gameplay.  Features that made the original popular, such as the fast-paced, real-time combat and the private actions that allowed relationships to grow between party members will remain in the game.

In Star Ocean the Second Story R, players follow the adventure of a Federation officer who finds himself transported to a strange planet. While he searches for a way home he encounters a young girl who leads him into a quest to save her people.

Star Ocean the Second Story R will be released on Playstation 5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Steam for PC on 2nd November.  Pre-orders are available from some retailers and include bonus digital items for players to use.
