Star Trek: Picard’s Terry Matalas set for Enemy Mine remake

June 16, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Enemy Mine is a cult classic sci-fi film that won over nerds in the 1980s, and Terry Matalas wants to revamp it for the modern age.

Terry Matalas is best known as the showrunner for the final season of Star Trek: Picard. He’ll write this project for 20th Century Studios. At the time of this reporting, no producer or director are currently on board.

German filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen helmed 1985’s Enemy Mine, his English-language debut. Petersen was hired after 20th Century Fox fired original director Richard Loncraine. The original film was based on a novella by the sci-fi author Barry B. Longyear.

Enemy Mine was set in a future where mankind is warring with a reptilian alien species. The film starred Dennis Quaid as a human pilot and Louis Gossett Jr. as an alien who crashes lands on a desolate planet. In the movie, both have deep-seated hatred for one another but are forced to overcome their prejudices to survive. Things are taken up a notch when the human pilot must take care of the alien’s baby when the reptilian is no longer able.

There’s no release date set for this new Enemy Mine as yet.
