Star Wars: The Last Jedi passes $1.3 billion worldwide

January 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It was already the highest-grossing release of 2017, and now Star Wars: The Last Jedi has reached another box office milestone, with the divisive Episode VIII pushing its global haul beyond the $1.3 billion mark.

The Rian Johnson-directed film has grossed $610.8 million domestically, in addition to a further $701.1 million from international markets, for a total of $1.312 billion to date.

Despite becoming the second biggest Star Wars movie to date after Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the ninth biggest film of all time, there has been some talk that the film has disappointed financially, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that it has fallen some $200 million short of some analysts’ predictions. It also fared quite poorly in China, being pulled from theaters after just two weeks with $41 million in the bank.
