Star Wars: The High Republic project will not feature movies or TV shows

February 26, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Lucasfilm has confirmed that their new Star Wars: The High Republic project will not overlap with any films or TV that are planned for production.

Fans have been speculating what exactly Star Wars’ Project Luminous could entail ever since it was rumoured. The reveal came this week and Lucasfilm announced a whole slate of exciting publishing efforts under the Star Wars: The High Republic banner, including books and comics set in an era 200 years before the Skywalker Saga.

However, their press release (via Screen Rant) has confirmed that the High Republic will not feature any movies or TV that are currently planned: “this period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap with any of the films or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners space to tell Star Wars stories in a never-before-explored timeline.”

Star Wars: The High Republic is set to span multiple books and comics, and will revolve around a cataclysmic event known as ‘The Great Disaster’, which will pit the Jedi against a new enemy, The Nihil.

Things will begin with the novel Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, which will introduce “a different kind of Jedi, one that patrols the frontiers, a sort of Texas Ranger”. This will be followed by Justina Ireland’s middle-grade book A Test of Courage, the Marvel Comics series The High Republic by Cavan Scott, Claudia Grey’s novel Into the Dark, and the IDW Publishing comic book series The High Republic Adventures – all of which will constitute the first ‘phase’ of the High Republic era.
