Stephen King regular Chosen Jacobs has detailed the difference between working on It and Castle Rock

August 14, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Chosen Jacobs has spoken about how different it is working on It and Castle Rock, both of which stem from the mind of author Stephen King.

The adaptation of Stephen King’s It was a verified blockbuster and really shot its child stars to prominence, including Chosen Jacobs, who played Mike Hanlon. Jacobs has now gone onto star on another Stephen King-themed project, Hulu’s Castle Rock, where he plays Wendell Deaver.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Jacobs described how different it is working on Castle Rock compared to It: “It was just two totally different experiences. Working with the cast of It, you have a little more of that child energy, and that’s kind of what the film needed. I think that was what made it special was that you had that real, genuine fun, child-like energy. Versus being on the set of Castle Rock, the energy there … Behind the camera, we still have fun. We crack jokes and things like that, but there is more of a serious energy on set just because that’s the energy we want to come across the screen. So I feel like at least for me, and then what I’ve noticed is normally whatever energy you want the film or whatever project you’re working on, you have to kind of reciprocate in just the energy on set, and the tone.”

We are yet to see Jacobs’ character on Castle Rock but it will certainly be fun for fans of the show to see yet another Stephen King alum make an appearance. Are you expecting any further It references or Easter eggs?

Based on Stephen King’s works, the series is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine that is featured in many of his novels. The series stars Andre Holland (Moonlight), Bill Skarsgård (It), Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness), Sissy Spacek (Carrie), Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Scott Glenn (Daredevil), Terry O’Quinn (Lost) and Chosen Jacobs (It) as they get caught up in the town’s mysterious darkness.

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
