Stranger Things finale grosses over $25 million at the box office

January 2, 2026 by Matt Rodgers

The years-in-the-making Stranger Things finale might have proven divisive with audiences, but that didn’t stop them flocking to movie theaters to experience one last trip to the Upside Down.

According to Deadline’s report the Duffer Brothers-directed send-off outstripped predictions by taking in over $25 million at the box-office since it released on New Year’s Day, with some sources suggesting that it could top $30 million by the time all of the vouchers are counted up.

Stranger Things had something of a strange release strategy, with concession vouchers purchased for $20 per seat to get around the cast’s contractual terms for residuals. The eagerly anticipated farewell to Netflix’s flagship creation played in 620 locations around North America, and two days before release it was announced that 1.1 million seats had already been sold.

To underline how impressive the haul is, in comparison box-office champ Avatar: Fire & Ash grossed $23.7 million over New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
