Stranger Things will continue on beyond season 4

August 19, 2020 by Ricky Church

With Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things set to resume production soon, the series’ creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the sci-fi horror series will continue beyond its upcoming fourth season.

“Season four won’t be the end,” said Ross Duffer. “We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story.”

This certainly tracks with what the Duffer Brothers said earlier this summer with the series’ ending having been planned “for years.” Season 4 is also said to be its scariest yet according to Joe Kerry, who plays fan-favourite Steve Harrington in the series.

As for returning to work, the brothers said the production hold was something of a blessing in disguise as it allowed them to fully complete the scripts for the season prior to shooting it. “We’ve had a lot more time to work on the scripts. For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we’re able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments,” Matt Duffer said.

“Everyone’s excited to get back to work, but the priority is the safety of the cast and crew, and that will dictate when we go back,” said Ross.

Though Stranger Things will resume production soon, it is unknown when it will premiere due to the extended hiatus. It is currently nominated for five Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama.
