Sylvia Hoeks is Anna Nicole Smith in first look at biopic Hurricanna

December 9, 2023 by Gary Collinson

With filming now underway, Deadline has shared a first look image of Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049, See) as Anna Nicole Smith in Hurricanna, a biopic of the late Playboy model and actress.

Hurricanna is being directed by Francesca Gregorini (Killing Eve) from a script by Rachel and Matt Sarnoff, and “will chart the final days of pop culture icon Smith, known for her career as a model, Playboy magazine centerfold, actress and TV personality, as well as her highly publicized second marriage to 89-year-old billionaire J. Howard Marshall, and her untimely death aged only 39.”

The producers of the film describe it as “exploring the immense hurricane-like force that was Anna Nicole Smith, and the fateful string of events that led Anna to destroy everything in her path, including herself and those closest to her.”

Featuring alongside Sylvia Hoeks in the cast of the film are Holly Hunter (The Piano), Mark Duplass (The Morning Show) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).

Anna Nicole Smith began her career in the early 90s as a model and made several film appearances with roles in the likes of The Hudsucker Proxy, The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult and the Die Hard knock-off Skyscraper, but became best known for her personal life, including her marriage to J. Howard Marshall, who was 63 years her senior. Smith passed away of an accidental drug overdose in 2007 aged 39.
