Martin Carr reviews the fifth episode of Gotham Season 2…Back history, pipe bombs and flame retardant arsonists are just a few things on offer this week in Gotham. Giving us an antique blade, old wife’s tale and a suitably creepy woman to impart said story just adds atmosphere. With Penguin still on a choke chain, Galavan […]

Martin Carr reviews the fourth episode of Gotham season 2… Adding a militant edge to this show was someone else’s bright idea. Gotham needed something to combat the rise of these villains and their answer came in spades this week. By bringing in Michael Chiklis as Nathaniel Barnes, show runners have hopefully brought someone capable […]

Martin Carr reviews the third episode of Gotham season 2…Storm clouds are gathered and winter is coming but this is no Game of Thrones. As Essen bleeds out and Gordon’s face turns to Mount Rushmore, you feel some serious shit is being thrown down. This is Straight Outta Compton crossed with New Jack City wearing […]

Martin Carr reviews the second episode of Gotham season 2…Up in your face like Eli Roth on acid, episode two carves its intention across the screen using big fat marker pens. Coming across like a youthful Nicholson with all the imbalance of Ledger’s darkly edged Joker, Jerome sets a fire under your arse straight out the […]

Martin Carr reviews the first episode of Gotham season 2…From the opening frame of this new season Gotham seems like a different animal. There is a swagger in the step, a confidence somehow sealed in stone, which was lacking last year. Those villains are nastier, more sordid and somehow more stylish as a result. There […]

Martin Carr reviews the season finale of Gotham…Perched on the prow and majestic in torchlight stood a figurehead. Her vessel advanced with all the ceremony of a Viking burial, only to dispatch them moments later, like tattered detritus onto the banks of a murky Gotham morning. Crunching shingle under foot as she moved the woman […]

Martin Carr reviews the twentieth episode of Gotham…Unbalanced personalities, damaged psychosis and narrative conventions all jostle for position, in this penultimate portion of Gotham on Fox. Erin Richards, all but forgotten in the ebb and flow of events, comes to the fore opposite Ogre extraordinaire Milo Ventimigilia. Elsewhere Lord Taylor continues his plotting while the […]

Martin Carr reviews the twenty-first episode of Gotham…I find myself between a rock and a hard place. With metaphorical marching bands and the news of another royal mouth to feed, we find ourselves at an end. Not in the biblical sense but more in a literal manner. Gotham has finished. If you could stop cheering […]

Martin Carr reviews the seventeenth episode of Gotham…David O’Hara has a face you recognise, even if the name leaves a lesser impression. Character actor familiar from Braveheart, Wanted and Scorsese’s The Departed he brings a lot of acting luggage with him. This man has spent time in good company and it shows. His part is […]

Martin Carr reviews the eighteenth episode of Gotham…This was to be my grand gesture. A return to form and way back from literary oblivion. Gotham was the weapon of choice, episode eighteen and nineteen the literary armour I chose to swathe myself in. Prepared for battle and cloaked in metaphorical attire I would advance with […]
