Taika Waititi says Thor: Love and Thunder is so crazy “it’s almost like it shouldn’t be made”

July 16, 2021 by Gary Collinson

While Thor: Ragnarok certainly injected some additional wackiness into the world of the God of Thunder, director Taika Waititi has promised to take things to a whole new level with his upcoming follow-up Thor: Love and Thunder.

The filmmaker previously described the new film as the “craziest thing I’ve ever done”, and now Waititi has elaborated on that comment during an interview with Empire Magazine.

“Well, just between (me and) you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done,” said Waititi. “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”

“It’s very different from Ragnarok,” promises Waititi. “It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos.”

We’re still some ten months out from Love and Thunder, but with Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all still to come (not to mention several more Disney+ shows), there’s plenty of Marvel content incoming while we wait for the craziness of the God of Thunder’s latest adventure to be unleashed.

Directed by Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi, who also reprises his on-screen role as Korg, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Russell Crowe (Unhinged) as Zeus and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) as Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for a May 6th, 2022 release.
