Tatiana Maslany denies that she’s been cast as Marvel’s She-Hulk

October 17, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was reported by several reputable outlets that Orphan Black and Perry Mason star Tatiana Maslany has been cast in the title role of Marvel’s Disney+ series She-Hulk, and while it was never confirmed by the studio, Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo even took to social media to congratulate the actress on securing the role of Bruce Banner’s similarly Hulk-afflicted cousin Jennifer Walters.

Welcome to the family, cuz! @tatianamaslany #SheHulk https://t.co/VXcaE9Fine

— Mark Ruffalo (@MarkRuffalo) September 17, 2020

Well, rather interestingly, Maslany was asked about the casting during an interview with The Sudbury Star, during which she dismissed the reports as untrue.

“That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand,” said the Emmy-winner. “It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately. I don’t know how these things get — I don’t know, I don’t know… You know better; I have no idea.”

One would have to assume that Ruffalo wasn’t getting his information from Deadline and actually had some inside knowledge into the casting – especially as he’s reportedly set to appear in the series – so it’s certainly strange that Maslany is denying the report. Perhaps there’s been some kind of snag in negotiations or scheduling conflicts? Or perhaps her contact forbids her from confirming until Disney and Marvel have made the news official?

With She-Hulk reportedly looking to begin filming early in the New Year, hopefully it won’t be too long before we get some clarification.
