Ted Danson is back undercover in A Man on the Inside season 2 first-look images

August 22, 2025 by Ricky Church

Netflix has released the first batch of images and announced a November 20th premiere date for the second season of its mystery comedy series A Man on the Inside. Starring Ted Danson as retiree Charles Nieuwendyk, he joins a private investigation agency to go undercover in difficult settings and solve their important cases.

The first season saw Charles enter a retirement home to find a jewel thief. As teased in the first season finale, Charles is asked go undercover again in a new case revealed to take place at a liberal arts college, which perfectly fits Charles’ background as a former architect professor. Joining the new season is Danson’s real-life wife Mary Steenburgen as a potential romantic interest for the widowed Charles, Max Greenfield (New Girl) as their new client and Gary Cole (NCIS) as a graduate of the college who has become very wealthy. The official synopsis reads:

Eager to take on another big undercover case, Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson) gets his chance when a mysterious blackmailer targets Wheeler College president Jack Berenger (Max Greenfield), who enlists Charles to go undercover as a professor. Who’s making these threats? Does it have something to do with the iconoclastic billionaire Brad Vinick (Gary Cole), a Wheeler graduate, and his proposed donation to the school? Charles finds no shortage of possible suspects, but his attention gets diverted by free-spirited music teacher Mona (Mary Steenburgen), whose zest for life awakens feelings he thought he’d buried after the passing of his wife. Is he ready to open his heart again at this stage in his life? And more importantly, has he fallen for the very criminal he’s been sent to unmask?

Meanwhile, his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) is inspired by the changes in her father and uncovers a long-ignored passion, while PI Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) embarks on her own journey of growth as she reconnects with an important figure from her past.

Also returning from the first season are Stephanie Beatriz as the retirement home manager Didi and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Charles’ friend Calbert. Other newcomers include Michaela Conlin (For All Mankind), Lisa Gilroy (Twisted Metal), Madison Hu (The Brothers Sun), Sam Huntington (Being Human), Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth), Constance Marie (Switched at Birth), Linda Park (Star Trek: Enterprise), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) and Jill Talley (SpongeBob SquarePants).
