The Baby in the Basket teaser trailer, synopsis and cast revealed by Shepka Productions and Flickering Myth

March 31, 2023 by Amie Cranswick

Last week we announced that Flickering Myth was teaming with Shepka Productions to produce a new horror feature film entitled The Baby in the Basket, and now we are delighted to share more details with you on the project.

Reuniting director Nathan Shepka (Holiday Monday) and screenwriter Tom Jolliffe (Renegades), who worked together on last year’s thriller When Darkness Falls (available now on DVD and streaming on Prime Video, Tubi, Redbox, Vudu, Roku and Peacock), The Baby in the Basket is a Gothic horror tale set in the 1940s and will star up and coming British scream queens Amber Doig-Thorne (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Return of Krampus, Override), Michaela Longden (Jack in the Box: Awakening, The Ghost Within, Eating Miss Campbell), and Elle O’Hara (When Darkness Falls, Memories of Another, Tommy’s Honour).

“I’m super excited to be involved in this film,” said Amber Doig-Thorne. “Agnes is a really interesting character. She’s innocent and naive and feels like she’s destined for something greater, but really needs guidance and clarity from God. I think it’s going to be an incredible story which people will really enjoy watching.”

Check out the poster, synopsis and concept teaser trailer below…

“The nuns of a remote island convent in Scotland ready for an impending storm, but when a baby is left on their doorstep, Sister Agnes (Amber Doig-Thorne) becomes convinced he is the Devil and wants to kill the child. After Agnes is locked away a grim series of events ensue as the storm rages and as her Sisters begin to question faith and reality, Sister Eleanor (Michaela Longden) must try to repent and survive the dark events at St Augustine’s.”

“We’re really excited to be teaming up with up and coming writer/producer Tom Jolliffe and legendary movie website Flickering Myth for this project,” said director Nathan Shepka. “We’ve got some great talent attached and I know Amber, Elle and Michaela will all give powerhouse performances. It’ll be a challenge bringing the concept to life, especially with the period setting but the team are looking forward to getting stuck in and I’m looking forward to creating an eerie, atmospheric horror throwback.”

“The horror genre has always been a huge favourite of ours at Flickering Myth, and so we are delighted to be working with Shepka Productions on this project,” added Gary Collinson, Editor-in-Chief of Flickering Myth. “We’re incredibly excited by what Nathan and Tom are cooking up with The Baby in the Basket, and can’t wait to share more with our readers, and the wider horror community.”

“This is a project that really harks back to a golden age of Gothic horror from the 1940’s to 1970’s,” stated writer-producer Tom Jolliffe. “It’s a passion project that’s been exciting to write and a step away from the creature horrors I’ve done previously. Now as a co-producer I’m looking to have more creative control in what I can turn from script to screen.”

The Baby in the Basket will be produced by Shepka Productions in association with Flickering Myth, and filming is slated to take place in the Autumn of 2023. We are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to help complete funding of the film, and if you’d like to check out the campaign and the rewards available, you can do so here. However, we appreciate any kind of support, and anything you can do to help spread the word on in any way is hugely appreciated.

If you’ve made it this far into the post, then you’ve already contributed towards making The Baby in the Basket a reality, and so you have our gratitude. Thank you, and we look forward to bringing you further updates throughout the year ahead of the film’s (hopeful!) release in 2024.
