The Haunting of Hill House creator adapting The Midnight Club for Netflix

May 6, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Mike Flanagan, the creator of The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and director of Doctor Sleep, is set to adapt Christopher Pike‘s 1994 novel The Midnight Club as a Netflix series.

According to Variety, Mike Flanagan will serve as co-creator on The Midnight Club series alongside Leah Fong (Once Upon a Time). Both Flanagan and Fong will also executive produce, along with Julia Bicknell via Intrepid Pictures along with Intrepid’s Trevor Macy. The attached writers at this time include Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge.

The Midnight Club takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers and follows a group of patients who begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. However, they eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave.

Pike’s other young adult books include The Thirst and Chain Letter series, as well as the Remember Me and Alosha books. He is also the author of several adult novels, including Sati and The Blind Mirror. According to the outlet, the upcoming Netflix series will also incorporate other Pike works.

Mike Flanagan recently tweeted regarding The Midnight Club Netflix series announcement, “I began brainstorming an adaptation of The Midnight Club as a teenager, so this is a dream come true. It’s an honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike.”
