The Haunting of Hill House creator says season 2 would be a new story with new characters

October 25, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The creator of Netflix’s new horror series The Haunting of Hill House has said that season two would need a new cast and new storyline should it happen.

The latest hit to come out of Netflix’s original programming library is the horror series The Haunting of Hill House, adapted from the legendary book.

While season one has gone over well, season two is not yet a definite reality, with creator of the series Mike Flanagan telling EW that a second season would be a new start:

“I don’t want to speculate too much about season two until Netflix and Paramount and Amblin let us know if they want one. What I will say, though, is that as far as I’ve ever been concerned with this, the story of the Crain family is told. It’s done.

“I think that there are all sorts of different directions we could go in, with the house or with something completely different. I love the idea of an anthology as well. But to me, I felt like the Crains have been through enough, and we left them exactly as we all wanted to remember them, those of us who worked on it. We toyed with a cliffhanger ending and we toyed with other ideas, but ultimately, in the writers’ room and with the cast and everything else, we really felt like the story demanded a certain kind of closure from us and we were happy to close the book on that family.

“I think more than anything, the show is about haunted places and haunted people, as Steve says, and there’s no shortage of either. So, there’s any number of things we could do, in or out of Hill House.”

There you have it, folks. The Haunting of Hill House could continue but if it does, it won’t be the same. Would you be happy for a second season knowing the above information?

The Haunting of Hill House is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s legendary novel of the same name, about five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America. Now adults, they’re reunited by the suicide of their youngest sister, which forces them to finally confront the ghosts of their own pasts… some which lurk in their minds… and some which may really be lurking in the shadows of the iconic Hill House.

The Haunting of Hill House is available to watch now on Netflix.
