The Legend of Zelda movie fills out its cast with Uli Latukefu, Yvonne Strahovski, Dichen Lachman, Lydia Peckham and Sam Neill

August 9, 2026 by Gary Collinson

With Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie banishing the ghost of its infamous 1993 predecessor, Nintendo seems to have got over its aversion to adaptations of its IP, the video game giant unlocking its vault and wasting little time in bringing the second brightest jewel in its crown to life by teaming with Sony’s Columbia Pictures for a live-action adaptation of the beloved fantasy series The Legend of Zelda.

Directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and featuring young stars Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, the film wrapped production back in April of this year, and now Deadline is bringing us details of some of the supporting cast set to fill out the world of Hyrule.

As revealed by the trade, Young Rock star Uli Latukefu is portraying the villainous Ganondorf, having signed a multi-picture deal, while Dichen Lachman (Severance) plays Impa, bodyguard to Princess Zelda, and Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale) is portraying a queen character and Lydia Peckham (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) appears in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Also set to feature posthumously is the late Sam Neill, with the Jurassic Park star’s role also under wraps for the time being.

Originally launching on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, The Legend of Zelda is one of the most critically-acclaimed and best-selling video game series of all-time; it follows the adventures of Link, an elf-like warrior on a quest to rescue the Princess Zelda from the monstrous Ganon (a.k.a. Ganondorf), a powerful warlock who seeks to conquer the kingdom of Hyrule.

The Legend of Zelda is set for release on May 7th 2027.
