The Mandalorian season 3 won’t be delayed due to pandemic

August 21, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Jon Favreau, the creator and showrunner of The Mandalorian, says that season 3 should have no problem starting on time.

We are only a couple of months away from the eagerly anticipated second season of The Mandalorian but, of course, we also anticipating the eventual third season which has already been confirmed.

Fortunately for Star Wars fans, we are not going to have to wait any longer than normal for season three due to the pandemic. Creator of the show Jon Favreau has told THR that due to the way they shoot on the show, the pandemic won’t stop production from starting on time:

“The fact that the set is much more contained is a benefit, because you can limit the number of people. A lot of the people controlling it are doing it remotely from what we call the Brain Bar, which is a bank of gaming computers, essentially. The amount of people near the camera could be much smaller than [usual]. We also shoot a lot outside, which is helpful, too. We build to a moment in filming more like an animated production, where we have a lot of storyboards, a lot of discussions and scouting in virtual reality. We use cinematic tools in VR much the same way we did for The Lion King and The Jungle Book. A lot of times the actors you are seeing on the screen aren’t actually there on set.”

This is certainly good news and will be a big relief for fans who were concerned that there would be potential delays. Now all that’s left to do is look forward to season two!

The Mandalorian season two is set to premiere in October 2020 and sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) alongside new cast additions Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Michael Biehn (The Terminator).
