Timothée Chalamet in talks for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune

July 17, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

One of the undoubted supernova’s of 2017 (Lady Bird, Hostiles, Call Me By Your Name), Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet has just made the prospect of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune that much more tantalising by entering negotiations to join the ambitious adaptation of Frank Herbert’s opus.

Deadline are reporting that Chalamet will take the lead role of Paul Atreides, who was played by Kyle MacLachlan in David Lynch’s much maligned 1984 adaptation.

Dune is a science-fiction epic set far into the future, in a world in which feuding planetary societies fight for control over the most valuable substance in the universe; a spice called melange. The story follows Atreides, whose family are tasked with guarding the only planet upon which the spice can be found. However, it’s almost impossible to condense the story into a single line synopsis, as there’s so much in the source novels that Denis Villeneuve has announced the project will be more that one film.

Next up for Chalamet will be Amazon Studio’s Beautiful Boy, alongside Steve Carrell. Watch the trailer here.
