Titans star Brenton Thwaites and Lily Sullivan join Australian dramedy I Met a Girl

January 22, 2019 by Ricky Church

Titans‘ Brenton Thwaites and Picnic at Hanging Rock’s Lily Sullivan will be starring in an upcoming Australian dramedy I Met A Girl according to Deadline.

The film comes from director Luke Eve with a script written by Glen Dolman and produced by Adam Dolman, all of whom have previously worked together on the web series High Life. Production on I Met A Girl began today.

Thwaites stars as an impulsive young musician struggling with schizophrenia who falls for a mysterious woman (Sullivan) who may be all in his head. When she suddenly vanishes, he takes off on a cross-country journey across Australia to find her, forcing his long-suffering brother  to try to rescue him.

Starring alongside Thwaites and Sullivan are Joel Jackson (Jungle) as Thwaites’ brother, Zahra Newman (Wentworth) and Peter Rowsthorn (Kath And Kim). The film will be shooting in Western Australia and South Wales.

Adam and Glen Dolman began to work on the film after a close friend who suffered from a serious mental illness passed away. “This is a personal, authentic and very moving story and one which I believe will resonate with audiences worldwide,” Adam Dolman said. “We’re both thrilled to be working again with director, Luke Eve, whose passion and vision for this project is infectious.”

James Norrie of AMP International said “Romantic, sweet and laugh out loud funny, I Met A Girl has a great balance of humor and pathos, which is sure to appeal to an international audience.”

Screenwest CEO Peter Rowe spoke about the film’s focus on schizophrenia, adding: “This is a life affirming, coming-of-age story that’s both funny and whimsical yet deeply emotional.”
