Tom Holland still hasn’t signed on for more Spider-Man movies

July 8, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Spider-Man has hit a new level of popularity with Marvel Studios – a big part of that being the addition of fan-favorite actor Tom Holland as the titular hero.

Coming off the box office success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, producer Amy Pascal claimed that Marvel and Sony would reunite for a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies, a statement that Sony subsequently downplayed, and now comes a report from Jeff Sneider, via The Ankler, which states that Holland still has not penned a deal to return as Spider-Man.

“Okay, so Sony may not have the biggest bench in terms of franchises, but it wisely made a deal with Marvel Studios to get its marquee character Spider-Man into the MCU, which helped make the studio’s solo Spidey movies must-sees, even more so,” notes Sneider.

“And while plans are in motion for another Spidey trilogy starring Tom Holland, I don’t believe he has actually signed a deal yet, so those plans remain unofficial for now,” Sneider continues. “That said, I’m sure that more Spidey adventures with Holland are a top priority for Rothman & Co., which is also counting on him as the anchor of its budding Uncharted franchise as well.”

It’s clear Sony wants Tom Holland back, and the actor does seem to love the role, yet the two sides haven’t found a place to meet in the middle yet. The state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems hectic, and with Sony Pictures furthering their own shared Marvel cinematic universe, it may be some time before we get clarification on the web-slinger’s future.

In the meantime, Holland’s most recent Spidey entry Spider-Man: No Way Home is set for a re-release this September with an extended cut, including never-before-seen scenes.

Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home) directing Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zendaya (M.J.), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Angourie Rice (Betty Brandt), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Jason Ionello), Benedict Wong (Wong), J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), J.B. Smoove (Mr. Dell), Hannibal Buress (Coach Wilson), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus), Rhys Ifans (Lizard), Thomas Haden Church (Sandman), and Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin).
