Toy Story 4 director shuffle, Disney and Pixar announce new movies

July 15, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday at the D23 Expo, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios held their ‘Upcoming Films’ panel, during which it was revealed that John Lasseter has stepped down as director on Toy Story 4.

The task of directing the fourth instalment in the beloved series will now fall to co-director Josh Cooley, who began his career with Pixar as an intern on Cars and served as the head of story on Inside Out. The script for the movie has been written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, and the film is slated to his cinemas on June 21st 2019.

Meanwhile, a further two projects were announced during the panel; first up from Pixar is an untitled suburban fantasy movie from director Dan Scanlon (Monsters University), which takes place in a world of elves, trolls and sprites:

“In the film, we’re going to tell the story of two teenage elf brothers whose father died when they were too young to remember hi,” said Scanlon. “But thanks to the little magic still left in the world, the boys embark on a quest that will allow them a chance to spend one last magical day with their father.”
