Tron 3 rumoured to be titled Tron: Ascension; will start production in October

March 31, 2015 by admin

News of Tron 3 has always been in the background of major film talks since the release of Tron: Legacy back in 2010. It may have taken Disney a fair number of years to make a sequel to the 1982 cult classic, but plans for a third movie seemed have always been on the cards. It was reported earlier this month that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski would be returning to helm the movie, and now it looks like we have a title.

According to Production Weekly’s Twitter feed, Tron 3 will be titled Tron: Ascension, and will start production this October in Vancouver.

Check out the tweet below:

Also returning to the Tron world for Tron: Ascension is Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn, the son of Kevin Flynn played by Jeff Bridges in both films. No word yet on Olivia Wilde returning for another outing or Cillian Murphy, who had an uncredited role in Tron: Legacy as Edward Dillinger Jr., the son of Tron villain, played by David Warner in the original movie.

While never a massive box-office success, the original Tron became a cult hit over the years, and was a huge influence on the sci-fi genre and the future of special effects in film. it’s sequel Tron: Legacy did better, grossing over $400 million worldwide from a rumoured $170 million budget.
